Long Brick Workout
07.31.04 (6:53 pm) [edit]
Finished writing all of my thank you cards to my donors today and also printed out the mailing for my families annual golf outing.
Waited until close to 6:00pm to get in todays workout. I did a 25 mile bike/4 mile run. My husband was nice enough to pick up my bike at the end of the 25 mile ride so I was able to run at the park without worrying about someone stealing my bike, but also able to start my ride at the apartment.
I had a pretty tough but speedy workout tonight. I did the 25 mile bike in 1:37:00 including some medium hills plus one really steep hill that is almost a mile long. I got my bike up to 36 mph going down that hill, unfortunately I was slowed to about 5mph coming up it ;)
I was amazed with my run time 31:47 for 4 miles. Not too shabby after just completeing a 25 mile ride. I was especially impressed with the first two miles. My legs felt like jello but I was cruising at a 7:30 minute per mile pace.
After my brick workout locking up my bike so we can walk to the drinking fountain. Can you tell I was working hard? ;) [image]ehansen_105781977.jpg[/image]
After that we went out to dinner at Outback and I had a tall Labatts which I think was well deserved. Also had some seriously good grub. They had trivia pursuit cards at the bar so that was a good distraction while we waited for a table. It has been a very nice evening! I don't think I could ask for much better.

Running Late
07.30.04 (4:41 am) [edit]
I drove half way to swim practice this morning and realized I had taken the wrong vehicle because my husband was taking my truck in for an oil change today. So I had to turn around and go get his car and head back to practice. I was about 30 minutes late but luckily my coach had decided to stay and swim since no one else showed.
So I hopped in the pool and did a 400 warm up then some drills and then my coach and I did a mile worth of intervals together. It was a great workout and I swam pretty well especially considering how tired I was. Coach thinks I can swim the mile in the tri in 24 minutes! That is awesome because I figured it would take me 30 minutes. I want to complete the whole triathlon in less than 3 hours. I had figured 30 minutes for the swim. 1:30-1:40 for the bike, and 50 minutes for the run. Plus ten minutes in transition zones. That extra 6 minutes will put less worry on me during the bike ride. It would be nice to do the run in 45 but that may be a lofty goal after swimming a mile and riding 25 on the bike. We will see.
Here is today’s run down:
400 warm up 2* 50 head down, 50 slow arm recovery, 50 swim 3*200 at 3:20 send off 50 easy 6* 100 at a 1:45 send off 50 easy 6*50 at a 0:50 send off Total: 2400 yards
The 100's and 50's we did a "ladder" speed effect with the first and 4th easyish (of course not too easy or I would miss the send off), 2nd and 5th medium, 3rd and 6th hard
So nice to have my workout out of the way first thing in the morning so nothing is looming over my head for the rest of the day.
Looking forward to the weekend!

19 mile bike ride
07.29.04 (6:09 pm) [edit]
Didn't get out of work till late so I didn't start my bike ride until 8:00 pm. By the time I got done it was pretty dark out.
I did 5 one mile sprints and finished the whole ride in 1:19:19.
Not a great ride but glad I got it in.
The wildlife was out in full force tonight, I saw two deer, a huge raccoon, and a baby raccoon. Swallowed about 50 gnats and had at least three in my eyes. I also got assaulted by some kind of plant that hit my arm as I was riding by. Left some serious scratch marks.
I hate eating dinner this late but I am starving! Off to eat and head to bed.

Quick 40 Minute Swim
07.28.04 (7:24 pm) [edit]
Managed to squeeze in a swim workout this evening after work before going out to play miniature golf.
6*60 warm up 10 seconds rest 6*40 catchup drill (20 breathing on right/20 breathing on left side) 15 seconds rest 6*60 hard (15 seconds rest) 6*40 kick with board first 20 easy second 20 hard focusing on keeping a small efficient kick (10 seconds rest) 8*40 kick-swim first 20 kick without board second twenty sprint swim (focus on using same kick as in kick drills) 200 easy cool down Total: 1720
Glad I was so tired this morning because the weather was dreary in the morning but by the time I did my pool workout it was really nice out. There was a couple with their kid at the pool but they didn't complain about me removing the swim line that seperates the deep end from the shallow so I didn't complain about their kid squirting me with his squirt gun and chasing me around the pool. It was pretty cute actually. The kid was trying to talk to me in between my sets but I had ear plugs in so I couldn't hear him at all. He looked like he was having a good time.
I am off to bed!

Track Workout
07.27.04 (6:31 pm) [edit]
Met up with my coaches running club and did a track workout this evening. I was the only girl there so I had to adjust the workout so that I wouldn't be holding everyone else up.
I did a mile warmup with B and then the guys did 800/400 repeats and I did 600/400 repeats.
4*600 hard, 400 jog, 400 hard, 200 jog
Then I did a mile cool down with the guys.
I didn't time most of my splits because I didn't want to be dissapointed but I ran the last 400 hard in 88 seconds. (Not great but not awful after a tough workout)
So total running time was 40 minutes and total milage was 6 miles. Not too shabby.

Long Hilly Ride
07.25.04 (4:54 pm) [edit]
A and I rode in the Eddy's Bike Shop Sweet Corn Challenge this morning. We decided to get serious and do the 50 mile route. 56.5 miles and 4 hours 40 minutes riding time later we were pretty tired :) The ride started in Richfield and we rode through Bath, Brunswick, and Hinckley. I lost count of the huge hills but it sure felt like a lot of them. Getting Ready to Start! [image]ehansen_864912610.jpg[/image]
There were three rest stops and we were able to stock up on water/powerade, pretzels, and crackers. There were a ton of cyclists there. Luckily one of them had duct tape so we were able to tape our directions to our bikes. I taped the first half and A was in charge of the second half.
Stretching at the 25 mile stop [image]ehansen_221051043.jpg[/image]

The weather was great for a long ride, very cool and not too sunny. After the ride we had a picnic with the other cyclists, there was a group that had just finished a Team in Training Century ride so we sat with them. Had some of the best corn I have ever tasted and they even gave us a bag of sweet corn to take home.
I took some pics I will try and post them soon.
While we were busy riding our longest bike ride ever today our coach was competing in the Lake Placid Ironman!!! I haven't found his place yet but he completed a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run in 10:59:06!
I am still pretty exhausted from the ride even though I took a nap. My legs are pretty sore from the combination of the long run yesterday and today's ride so I am going to take tommorrow off of training. I am off to stretch and put my feet up! 56.52 Miles! | 10 Mile Run |
07.24.04 (9:03 am) [edit]
|
Did a 10 mile run with the marathoners and A this morning at Brecksville along the tow path. It was an excellent run! Fleet Feet did a water and Gu stop for us at the half way point which was awesome because I dehydrate on long runs. We finished 10 miles in 1:26:00!!! How awesome! And I felt great through most of the run. The Gu didn't taste great and my stomach was a little upset around mile 9 but I am sure the extra energy was worth it.

All by myself
07.23.04 (2:56 pm) [edit]
I got stuck in a traffic jam this morning on my way to swim practice. Who knew so many people were on 480 west at 5:30 in the morning? Crazy. So the highway was shut down and I didn't make it to practice until everyone was already gone.
I still managed to get in a good workout by myself.
Here is the run down:
400 easy warm up 6*200 (30 seconds rest) 4*100 (15 seconds rest) 50 breast 50 back 100 cool down Total: 2200
On the last 200 and the last 100 I started slow and increased to an all out sprint. It was a very good workout and I am pleased that I accomplished a mile of swimming during the intervals!!! I think I am ready for some lake swimming! Bring on Lake Erie!

21 mile bike ride
07.22.04 (4:25 am) [edit]
Went out to Squires Castle and did two 10.5 mile loops to get in 21 miles with A this morning. We went at a medium pace so it took us 1:30:55. It was a nice ride because we got to talk along the way and the scenery is beautiful out there :)
The rain gods must have been smiling on us because it started to rain just after we finished.

60 minute run
07.21.04 (4:39 am) [edit]
Not sure how far I went with J this morning but I managed to get in a 60 minute run with 2 eight and a half minute tempo runs. The weather is beautiful, a little muggy but definately liveable :) I felt pretty good today but my left hamstring has been bothering me since Saturday. (nothing bad enough to go to the doc) I have been icing but it is still a little tight. Hopefully it will work itself out.
Today is my minimum fundraising deadline and I didn't quite make it. ($2600 out of $3800) I can (and will) keep fundraising up until the triathlon at the end of August and they will refund me anything that I raise between now and then. Just sucks that my husbands credit card is going to take such a hard hit. Thank you very much to everyone who has donated so far! I can't tell you how grateful I am for your support. I think I have already raised more for this cause then I ever raised for any other causes combined :) Sweet!

My first Brick Workout
07.18.04 (10:31 am) [edit]
Just got back from my first "brick" (bike/run) workout. It was a little chilly when I started the bike ride and I thought for sure it was going to rain but it just sprinkled a bit. I rode 20.25 miles then dropped off my bike and went out and ran 3 miles. I felt okay on the run, legs were a bit jellowy for the first 10 minutes or so.
The bike ride wasn't too bad. I had to climb three really huge hills but managed to get through them without walking the bike. I spent 1:25:11 on the bike and 25:37 out running. I think I am going to take a nap before taking care of my errands for the day.

4 mile Shot in the Dark
07.17.04 (8:17 pm) [edit]
|
I ran in the first annual Winking Lizard "Shot in the Dark" 4 mile race tonight. It was very interesting. I think over 2000 people showed up for the race. Everyone who ran got a free glow in the dark necklace and a sandwich afterwards. (And T-Shirt) I warmed up for about 15 minutes and found coach K and coach M. They both ran in the race tonight too. They were nice enough to let me store my stuff in their vehicle during the race so I didn't have to worry about keys or anything. A was running late and I thought that she might not have made it but she caught me around mile 2.5 and let me know that she got to the start line in the nick of time. I ran a very good time for me right now, 31:10, but not a very good mental race for me. splits: mile 1-6:59!!! Wow I was so excited! mile 2-14:44 Still pretty impressed mile 3- 23:00 Not so happy with that mile 4-31:10 Okay but wish I had done a little better and gone 8:00 flat on the last mile I was really shocked when I saw my first mile split, it has been a long time since I have run under a 7 minute mile. I was pleasantly surprised because I was not going all out, just trying to keep up a good pace. Mile 2 was okay and I fell more into my groove. I had planned on running 8 minute miles the whole way. Mile 3 was really rough. I mentally just kind of gave up, let lots of people pass me, took too much time at the water stop...etc. Mile 4 I got a little better mentally but really wished I would have pulled off an 8:00 mile. (It was really bad because I was thinking to myself "well even if you run a 9:00 mile you will still have a good time" and that is not how you should think during a race, you should be thinking about picking up the pace, passing people, not about slowing down) After the race I ran around a mile and a half with K and M, so I was pretty beat after all of that.
We changed and headed to the block party. I got a labatt blue :) and waited in line for my sandwich. It wasn't very good...definately not worth the wait, but I met some nice people in line and chit chatted for awhile. After that we went out to a bar and chilled for awhile. It was a very nice evening. I had a good time. Now I am off to see if I can find something to eat and heading to bed! I have a brick workout in the morning to do!

1250 Yard swim
07.16.04 (4:23 am) [edit]
Didn't have too much trouble getting up this morning and heading to practice. It was a good workout!
300 warm up 50 head down drill 50 slow arm recovery 50 catch up drill 8*100 (first 100 did the first 25 fast the rest medium hard, 2nd 100 the 2nd 25 fast, 3rd 100 3rd 25 fast, 4th 100 4th 25 fast. Then I did the 5th 100 easy, 6th 100 medium, 7th 100 hard, 8th 100 all out) For the first 4 I had 15 seconds rest and the last 4 I did 20 seconds rest.
It was a quick little workout but quite invigorating. Tomorrow night I am doing a 4 mile "race" downtown. And then Sunday I think I am going to try and get a brick workout in.

Wonderful Ride on the Tow Path
07.15.04 (6:28 pm) [edit]
Took my bike with me to work so that I could go for a ride on my way home tonight. It is so easy to skip a workout if you go home first.
I got directions from Scott to the tow path and decided to check it out. The trail runs along a river and is sometimes paved sometimes coated in this silty gravel. I wasn't too keen on riding on the siltstone since technically I have road tires now but I decided to brave it since I have a spare tube. Managed to get in just over 25 miles in 1:38:07. No flats!
It was a beautiful night out. When I first got on the trail I saw a huge turtle! The wildlife was out in full force tonight. I passed quite a few pedestrians tonight but a few really struck me when I passed. Firstly a couple who thanked me when I passed them (as I was thanking them) for calling ahead that I was passing. How nice :) Then I saw a man holding his weiner dog up so that the dog could watch the river! How cute! There were quite a few cyclists out, mostly on leisurely rides on their mountain bikes. One guy had a little board mounted on the back of his bike so his dog could go along for the ride :)
I went out 11 miles south and then turned back. On the way back I passed an older lady who was cruising pretty fast on her bike. About 30 seconds after I passed her I am staring straight ahead at a deer in the middle of the path. I slowed down and called back to the lady that there was a deer ahead. Luckily the deer decided against a show down and ran into the woods. The lady and I chatted for about a mile until she had to turn off. She was really nice.
Something about aerobic excercise and being outside just makes me want to be nice to people. It was definately a good trail for seeing other people. I think I will stay off of it until I finish training for the tri though. Then I can put my hybrid tires back on and go cruise on the tow path again.
My fundraising deadline is coming up fast...next Wednesday! Yikes! My fundraising minimum is $3800. So far I have $2300. So it looks like my husband and I are going to shell out $1500. They will let me keep fundraising up until the event and then they can send us a check to refund any money I raise between now and then. Looks like I am going to have to come up with some big events! Happy hour anyone? ;)

Swim!
07.14.04 (1:31 pm) [edit]
Managed to drag myself out of bed and go swimming this morning. It was storming up until I went out. Luckily the rain held off while I was in the pool. The pool was extremely warm this morning, not sure that I was grateful. I was as I was getting in but I didn't like it very much once I was swimming. I got all my swim gear in the mail last night so I was able to use my pull buoy and Sammy today.
Here's today's rundown:
200 warm up 40 slow arm recovery 40 fingertip drill 40 head down drill 40 catch up drill 20 (5 seconds rest) 40 (10 seconds rest) 100 (20 seconds rest) 200 (30 seconds rest) 20 pull (5 seconds rest) 40 pull (10 seconds rest) 100 pull (20 seconds rest) 200 pull (30 seconds rest) 4*100 kick 200 medium (30 seconds rest) 100 hard (20 seconds rest) 40 90% (10 seconds rest) 20 all out 20 backstroke 100 cool down Total: 1960
Hopefully the weather is nice tomorrow for my bike ride that I skipped yesterday :)
Oh awesome thing happened last night. Diana Munz (from my husbands hometown) qualified for the Olympics in the womens 800 free! Can't wait to watch the race on Sunday! (Not sure why they are waiting to air it until then) I actually met Diana and she was very nice. Her parents go to a summer party that we go to every year so I was routing for her to make it :)

Running Workshop
07.12.04 (6:49 pm) [edit]
After work I headed down to Hinckley Reservation for our running workshop. It was pouring when we got there but it stopped after about twenty minutes
Check out the Pictures!
We talked a little bit about running and then did a 6 mile run (twice around Hinckley Lake). We had an easy warm up and then did 7 minutes at 10k race pace, then about 15 minutes easy then another 7 minutes hard, 10 minutes easy, and then A and I decided to try another hard interval but ended up doing only 6 minutes hard due to the really big hills. We ended up running the six miles in 58 minutes. Not too bad considering we did a lot of it easy, there were tons of hills, and it was really hot and muggy. (We were all drenched with sweat when we got done)
We then did some running drills and then hopped in the lake to cool off. By the time we headed out it was 9:30pm. About half way home I realized how bad my posture was so I stretched out my back. Well apparently while I was doing that my foot turned into lead and I increased my speed from about 65 to 76. Well of course I got pulled over and got a ticket (speed limit was 60). So that really sucks.
I was really scared too because the cop asked me where I worked and for my work number (I didn't give it to him because I couldn't remember it). I was a bit frightened since it was dark out and there were no street lights on the highway. (And no cop has ever asked me for my work information, let alone my exact adress and such, usually when they ask if I am still at my current address and I say no they just ask what city I am in now) So I was quite scared and made sure to call my husband and give him my location just in case something bad were to happen. (And I made sure to inform the cop that I was going to call him so he knew where I was) So I didn't get hurt or anything but I will probably have a hefty fine. Ugggh. Off to bed because I need to go on a 15 mile bike ride tomorrow...maybe I will do an evening ride to catch some more z's...

ABC Ride/ To shave or not to shave
07.11.04 (5:38 pm) [edit]
Drove down to Medina this morning for one of the Akron Bicycle Clubs bike tours. It was a beautiful day for it! Sunshine and fluffy clouds. A and C came along with. The tour was nice we did the "25" mile loop which actually turned out to be 28 miles. At mile 13 there was a rest stop and we got free ice cream and snacks. It was only 12 bucks for the ride so not too bad.
We passed a group of cyclists that apparently don't know the rules of riding on the road because there were four of them riding in a group covering the whole right side of the road. (Forcing us to pass into oncoming traffic along with any cars that came along, and cyclists’ wonder why drivers hate them...) Well when I was about to pass I informed them that we were passing on the left and asked if they could please ride single file. The one lady grunted at me as if I was being rude. Oh well. Well of course we see them at the rest stop and they are pointing at us and giving us dirty looks. Luckily we rested long enough that we didn't have to pass them again.
Around mile 17 C got a flat. So we stopped took the rear tire off, found the whole, patched it up, pumped up the tube, put the tire back on the bike, start to put the chain back on and it is flat again. Bizarre. So we take it off again check the tire for anything sharp that may have made the hole. Didn't find anything. By this time the SAG vehicle and another cyclist stopped to help us. They put on a new patch, pumped it up, put the tire back on the bike, C sat on it, and it popped again. What the heck? So we looked at both the patches and the air was actually bubbling the patch and popping the patch. Weird. So C had to get driven back by the SAG vehicle.
A and I kept riding and around mile 20 we passed by the start so since we were now running a bit behind A turned off. I decided to finish the ride by myself. I ended up going 27.98 miles. Riding Time: 2:01:59. Total time spent at the ABC Ride: about 4 hours.
Check out the photos!
After the ride I came home and took a 4-hour nap...the sun really takes it out of me. Then my husband and I went to the 1/2 price bookstore to sell all of the books that didn't sell at the yard sale. We had about 250 books and they gave us $51.25 for them. Not too bad especially considering some of the books were in pretty bad shape.
So in total this weekend I made about $150.00 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by selling all my old stuff. Not too bad. I think I am going to have to do another event though to reach my fundraising minimum.
What do you guys think of this? I am considering throwing a "To Shave or not To Shave Party" where I have a get together with food and music and a cover charge and when you get to the door your cover charge and any donations go into a "To Shave" or "Not to Shave" jar. If the proceeds from the event get me to my minimum fundraising goal and the "To Shave" jar has more money than the "Not to Shave", I will shave my head. I would have a hairdresser at the party with clippers and would do it there at the party at the end of the night.
I have been toying with this idea...not sure if it would make enough money since I don't know many people in the Ohio area. But I could even let people send in donations if they couldn't make it to the party... What do you all think?

Yard Sale and late night running
07.10.04 (7:11 pm) [edit]
We had our Team in Training Yard Sale today. I didn't sell very much of my stuff but between donations we got at the yard sale and selling my old marching band sax for $40 I made a little over $100.00! Not too bad. Plus I am going to take all of the books I didn't sell to a half price book store and see what I can get for them. (We had a very nice lady stop by on her bike and she came back and donated $100.00!) How awesome is that? We were very grateful and pleasantly surprised by her donation. She is involved in a program that sends kids stuffed animals for Christmas so C is going to give her all of our stuffed animals that we didn't sell. We did not get her address but did give her a list of our websites and I hope she reads this because I want to say THANK YOU very much!!! We really appreciate your support!

Practicing Changing a Tire [image]ehansen_599785512.jpg[/image]
I didn't get home until 10 so I couldn't really get in a long run unless I wanted to run 32 laps on the track...not really my idea of fun (I hate the track). So I just ran for 30 minutes and did some intervals. 4*200 hard/200 easy, 400 hard, 2*200 easy/200 hard. So I got in a mile hard and about two miles easy tonight.
Tomorrow I am doing the ABC 25 mile bike ride with A and C and then we are going to try and run 3 miles.

Friday Swim
07.09.04 (1:57 pm) [edit]
So I was up late again last night. Not really any fault of my own. It took me about the amount of time that I figured it would to finish labeling books for the yard sale and putting them all into the car. Unfortunately I didn't get home until 9:30 which was not planned for.
I left work at 7:00 and went out to get in my truck. I noticed a lady on her cell phone in the parking lot and I could see that her rear right wheel was flat so I pulled over in my truck and asked her if she needed me to change her flat for her. She said that would be great if she only had one flat. I looked a bit closer and realized both her front and rear right tires were flat. Closer inspection revealed that someone had taken out her plugs and unscrewed the valves leaving them next to her tires. Wow I was in shock. I asked her if she had any enemies and she said she didn't think so.
Well the parking lot is across the street from a Sunoco so I went over there and asked them if they could possibly tow her truck over so that we could put air in her tires. I didn't think driving on the flats would be a good idea...might screw up her rims. He replied that they would do it for $40. I couldn't believe it. $40 to tow the truck across the street.
So I asked her if she had AAA and luckily she did so she called them while I figured out what the street names were. They finally figured out where we were and told her someone would be out at 8:00pm. An hour for some air. Well I wasn't going to leave her sitting by herself in the flats at night so I stayed and we chit chatted until the AAA guy came. Turns out he works at the Sunoco but had to go get the air from somewhere else.
Well he starts setting up to add the air to the tires and finds out it is a bum tank. Doesn't work. So he informs us that he will be back in 30 minutes. About 8:30 the ladies boyfriend showed up and we thought about taking off the tires ourselves and taking them over and pumping them at the gas station. We also sat and contemplated who could have possibly done this.
At 8:40 the AAA guy returns and fills up one tire, then goes across the street to refill the tank to come back and fill her other tire. So I took down her phone number since she just works down the way from me and finally left the parking lot for home at 9pm.
Both the lady and her boyfriend were very nice and said they wanted to take me out to dinner. I didn't think that was neccesary. I would hope that if I was stuck in a bad situation that someone would be there to help me. Even if it was just to sit with me for awhile. And besides she didn't ask for my help I offered it freely. What really shocked me is that noone else stopped to see if she was okay. (We did flag down a passing cop car but they had to leave on a call) I am going to call her next week and see if she got everything worked out okay. I am just glad that she was able to get everything fixed and drive away safely. You never know what type of people will lurk around at night in the Flats.
What really stunned me was how she looked on the bright side of things. If that had happened to be I would have been so upset and probably bawling my eyes out. She was very calm and just thankful that they didn't do worse damage to the vehicle.
Anyways I just thought that was a good story and it leads into the fact that I only got 3 hours of sleep and still made it to swim practice at 6am this morning.
The workout wasn't too bad. I was dragging a little but nothing I couldn't handle.
350 warm up 50 kick with board 50 kick without board 50 kick with sculling on each breath 50 catch up drill 7*100 (I think Coach Melissa had me on 20 second rest intervals) 50 back 2*25 sprint total: 1350
Then after swim practice I went over to Chrissy's to help set up for the yard sale and put out all of my "wares". I had to work today so Chrissy was really nice and offered to sell my stuff for me. Tomorrow three of us will be at the yard sale. Hopefully we will raise some good money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
I have to wake up early again so I can get my run in before the yard sale :)

4 Mile Run
07.08.04 (4:42 am) [edit]
I was up super late last night putting price labels on my books for this weekends Team in Training Yard Sale, but I managed to drag myself out of bed a get in my run this morning.
It was a nice morning, not too cool or hot. I took it easy and went 4 miles in 35 minutes. I decided that I needed a snack last night while I was labeling and that turned out to be a bad idea because I didn't feel great this morning. My legs are a bit sore, not sure if that is from last nights bike ride or Sundays run (I ran on a paved trail Sunday and this morning). Sometimes long runs on the pavement can do a number on my legs.
I still have a whole bin full of books to price and I need to make signs for the yard sale, so that is what will be doing tonight.

Me vs. The Road (and wind)
07.07.04 (4:49 pm) [edit]
Since I took two days rest I did two workouts today. Just got back from a 15 mile bike ride. I pushed myself a bit harder than usual tonight and finished in 58 minutes.
It was a nice night for a ride. I just left straight from my apartment and rode through North Chagrin Reservation and back. Most of the ride I was going 17mph. The last few miles were directly into the wind and that slowed me down quite a bit.
I was worried that it was going to rain but the storm clouds passed right over. Right now I am listening to the Polka music they are playing in the park next door and getting ready to price all of my books for the Team in Training yard sale this weekend.
I need to send out some big thank yous to all of my donors. So far I am up to $2054! I also want to thank my husband for being such an understanding person and for putting up with my crazy schedule. (And for making all of the dinners lately) ;)

Morning Swim in the Sun
07.07.04 (1:49 pm) [edit]
Did a swim workout this morning in the outdoor pool. There was a new crowd there this morning. Only three of us so it wasn't too crowded. I bought a cheap kickboard from the dollar store so I was able to do kick drills with a board today. As always had to adapt the workout to the size of our non-regulation pool :)
400 Easy 40 swim 40 kick 40 pull 40 catch up drill 40 slow arm recovery 4*80 200 (40 seconds rest) 200 (35 seconds rest) 200 (30 seconds rest) 100 (25 seconds rest) 100 (20 seconds rest) 40 (15 seconds rest) 40 (10 seconds rest) 40 (5 seconds rest) 40 40 breast stroke 40 back stroke 80 easy Total: 2040
I took the last two days off as rest days so I am headed out for a bike ride tonight. (If the weather holds up)

4th of July Run
07.05.04 (8:00 am) [edit]
We came up to Michigan for the 4th. I managed to find time for a run out on a paved trail in the Tecumseh Adrian area. It was very muggy and hot out. My least favorite type of running weather. I have been spoiled my last few runs with running partners so this run was a little more mentally tough. I ended up running for one hour and 19 minutes and went 8 and a half miles.
The first and last two miles were in the direct sunlight. That was really rough on the way back in. I had a pretty good groove going until about mile 5 where I passed by a sporting conservation area. Someone was shooting skeet and all of the gun shots really threw me off. That and about mile 7 a darn horsefly kept attacking me. So I went about 4 minutes slower on the way back than I did in the first 4 miles. I did the run around 3:30 pm so it wasn't the best time of day to run. I prefer to run really early or really late when it isn't so hot. Oh well. At least I got the run in and today I don't have any workouts planned. Just a three hour drive home.
Hope everyone had a great 4th of July!

Longest bike ride so far
07.03.04 (3:11 pm) [edit]
Went out to Rocky River Reservation this morning for my bike ride. Met up with a team in training friend and we ended up riding 26 miles which took us a bit under 2 hours. It was a beautiful day outside and the park is very nice. The roads are so much nicer than in some of the other metroparks.
I took lots of pics but I don't have time to post them right now so I will edit this next Tuesday to add those in.
Pics from the Ride!
I got there a little early so I was able to practice taking my feet in and out of the cages and taking my water bottle in and out of its cage. So now I am a bit more confident on the bike :) Although apparently I should be more careful while off the bike because I ran into my tire and got a huge bruise on my knee.
After the bike ride we went out to lunch and then I went and worked with my husband. They are letting me help out and then I can donate the money I make to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Works out well for both sides!
Not sure where I am going to run tomorrow. I want to get in 8 miles but we are driving up to Michigan...we will see.
Happy 4th of July everyone! (And happy belated 1st to all my Canadian pals)

Team Swim
07.02.04 (4:57 am) [edit]
Had a team swim this morning. Only two of us were there. I can't remember the workout exactly but here is the basic run down:
400 warm up 100 head down 50 pull buoy 50 focus on stroke 50 kick 50 catch up drill 6*100 at 80% (20 second rest, 17 second rest, etc.) 50 backstroke 2*75 (first 50 focus on stroke, last 25 all out sprint) 2*25 sprint
My body is doing something weird when I swim all out, it is like it moves from side to side...luckily it only does that when I am sprinting so I won't have to worry about that for long distance swimming.

Running!
07.01.04 (4:46 am) [edit]
Went to North Chagrin and met with my friend from college and Joe and Amie. We did a 38 minute run out on the wooded trails. It was a good morning for it! We probably went about 4 miles. It was nice to get in a group workout again. It is so much easier to run in a group where you don't have to mentally focus on running. You just talk and let your legs do the work!
